About the Conference

In 2023, LUISS Guido Carli (Rome) hosted the first TheorizingAI conference, ideated by Cristina Alaimo and Lauren Waardenburg and co-organized with the support of two Ph.D. students, Nelly Dux and Domenico di Prisco. The conference established a space for interdisciplinary discussion on AI and its impact on organizations and society, attracting scholars from both inside and outside Europe, including senior scholars and early-stage career researchers.

A total of 62 submissions were received, and the annual meeting included the participation of established authorities in their respective fields as keynote speakers, namely Jannis Kallinikos, Marleen Huysman, Jonny Holmstrom, and Kate Kellogg. Their talks addressed themes such as the study of AI at work, algorithmic control, the need for a social study of data and AI, and AI and data management.

These themes were central to the conference and were further discussed by other recognized scholars, including Angelos Kostis, Attila Marton, Prins Marcus Valiant Lantz, Sarah Lebovitz, and Aleksi Aaltonen. The conference concluded with the creation of an online community to continue the conversation and with the promise of a new annual meeting in the following year.
